black lab loves tennis balls
Lab heaven

Hi everyone!

Ron here!  Hope everyone had a nice weekend.!  It’s been a while since I have posted.

Kacey sent Sage a flea mail telling Sage how Hurricane Isaac missed Pensacola so my parents and sister were happy about that.  They had huge waves at the beach and some of the roads on the beach were damaged but it could have been worse.  Sage flea mailed her back and told her Isaac tried to make it up here but pretty much missed us too.

Sage and I went over to the Little League complex to let her run.  I tossed a Frisbee for her until she was on tuckered out puppy.  She enjoyed sniffing around and investigating some new areas.  I found a water bottle that had not been opened and she drank water right out of the bottle.  Sage is shedding allot right now.  I need to get a better brush one that removes loose hair.  As much as she is shedding I don’t know why she isn’t bald.

Earlier tonight Sage and I ware invited over to Mikes parents house for a birthday party for Mikes sister Laura.  Mikes parents enjoy seeing Sage and she was just soaking up all the attention.  Laura’s dog Gatlin was not as happy to see Sage.  Gatlin is a small dog and he was not sure about this big black dog running around.  Sage just wanted to play but Gatlin was not willing.  So Sage made this into a game.  Gatlin was sitting on Laura’s lap so Sage would go under the table and come out right under Gatlin.  This would upset Gatlin and she would bark at Sage.  So Sage would come out and lap around, go under the table and come out under Gatlin again.  Which would set Gatlin off again.  Sage must of done this six times before she got bored with this game.

Well time for bed!  Talk to you later!

BARNARD

Weather maps
BARNARD

Hi everyone!  Ron & Sage here!

Ron:  My Sister Peggy and my Parents are having to deal with the first real threat of a hurricane since they moved down to Pensacola.  Isaac is slowly moving across the gulf and may hit Pensacola.  Being up here we kind of felt left out and we had our own front heading toward us.

Sage:  So we named it Barnard.

Ron: Barnard came in around mid afternoon.

Sage: Yes and when it started raining it came down in drops.  Big wet ones!

Ron;  I think the worst part came in around 8:00 because it really got dark.

Sage: And it stayed that way all night!  Tell them what happened when we went out at 10:00.

Ron:  I will!  Well we went out so Sage could make a deposit

Sage:  It had stopped raining. I think it was the eye of Barnard.

Ron: Anyway a couple of yards away there was a big flash and loud bang.

Sage:  And the whole other side of our block was without power.

Sage:  I did what any big brave black lab would do.

Ron:  Yep she ran for the house and wanted back in.  What happened in Barnard's furry a large branch had fallen and taken out the power lines.

Sage:  I heard the storm surge on Lake George was indescribable.

Ron :  That's a good way of putting it.

Ron:  Now that Barnard has pretty much passed we are just waiting to see how Isaac pans out down south.  They have their windows covered and all the yard decorations moved inside.  Now they are waiting to see if they need to get out of there or can they stay and ride out the storm.  It all depends on what category the storm is going to be and where it is going to hit.  It looks as if right now it is going West of Pensacola.  We will keep you updated on any new info on Isaac or Barnard as we can!

Sage: Till next time!

Ron here!
Hi everyone! Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I had a very nice birthday. At lunch Kathy, Tammy ( aka the stalker) and Kathy's son Keven and his wife Kris took me out for Mexican. We had a great time. They were wondering why Kathy did not decorate my shop for my birthday. We informed them that her birthday is in 5 days and I would get even if she did. It was nice Tammy came along specially since she and Kathy bought my lunch. We will have to take her along more often. Well Sage was so excited to see me when I got home. As you can see by the picture below.

But Rick and Pat next door sent some cake over for my birthday and Mike stopped by and we went down town Hobart for more Mexican food.  It was a Mexican birthday.  Sage is Mikes buddy and all I had to do is say Mike is coming to see you and she was at the window looking for him.  Mike spent some time in the back yard throwing a toy for Sage to chase.  Sage was happy to humor him.  My Sister Peggy and my parents sent a package to me so I would have something to open on my birthday.  They sent some tropical place marts for the kitchen table.  They are very nice that's Mom, Dad and Peggy!

Speaking of Peggy she was trying to teach Sage to sit up in the chair in the living room when she was here.  But Sage is too good of a dogie for that.  But she has taken to taking naps in the guest bedroom.  Oh is that Peggy's new pillow she sleeping on?  Hope she doesn't drull.

See you later!

Sage & Ron Here.
Sage:   Hey everyone big day here !
Ron:  Sage you promised!
Sage:  I know! But I lied.  Ron turns 50 today!!
Ron:   No big deal.
Sage:  You know how old you are in dog years?
Ron :  You want to be locked in the laundry room?
Sage:  Ok we will pass on that one,  here is a little clip for your birthday.
Ron: Ok thanks that was nice.
 Sage: You get any presents?
Ron: Yes we celebrated my Birthday back while my sister was visiting. I got a pelican statue for my porch. Sage: well I left something for you on the carpet in the bedroom. And here is another clip!

Ron: Ok that was a little bazar!
Sage: He use to play for Three Dog Night.
Ron: Yeah Right.
Sage: 350
Ron: 350 what?
Sage: 350 dog years! Thought you should know. Heres a clip!

Sage: I liked that one.
Ron: Did you get me a birthday present?
Sage: Thats kind of rude to ask. But yes, I got you a large rawhide bone.
Ron: And ???? where is it??
Sage: Well It was really good.
Ron: thanks anyway.

Till next time!

Sage here!

Now that I'm 8 months old I thought it would be a good time to again go over some of the things I've learned.

You can get away with waking Ron up once on a weekend morning to go outside.  The second time gets you locked up in the laundry room.

If your human is taking a nap on the couch and you want him up, just put a ball covered in slobber in his face.  That will get him moving.

Ice cubes are great!

You can always find a stick to chew on.   It's as if they grow on tree's.

The Vet does not use an oral thermometer.

Ron will not warn you about the Vet not using an oral thermometer.

It is very hard to catch the little red light from a laser pointer.  But I'll keep trying.

Sprinklers do not warn you before they spray you.

Water taste great out of the garden hose.

Toads can hop when you least expect it.

Car rides are fun but if you put your head out the window watch out for a bug up your nose.

Don't turn your back on a human with a garden hose.

Belly rubs are the best!

Humans don't like a wet nose in their ear.

Best time to roll in the grass is right after a bath.

Best place to sit when your human is putting on his shoes is right between his feet.  This way you don't miss a thing.

It is  a dogs job to lay in a spot that your human will have to step over you to get to where he is going.  A nice touch is to move just as he is stepping over you.

That's all for now!
Till next time!

Hi everyone!

I'm glad to say Sage is doing much better.  You might say she is one pleased pooping pup.  But we have had a couple of side effects from her stoppage.  She has had some accidents inside the house with her wetting.  But she is getting better.  She has also decided to pee on the concrete instead of the grass.  While this may stop the dead spots in the grass I don't want her wetting on the walk.  She for some reason she is not sure she wants to go into the grass.  I wonder if she go stung or bit by a bug and is nervis about the grass now.  They said at the dog class that a dog only remembers things for a few seconds.  I can tell you Sage has a great memory.  Last night she was checking out a toad in the driveway.  Later that night she when we came out you could tell she was looking for the toad.  She clearly remembered it.
My sister Peggy left early Saturday morning to go back to Pensacola.  And now it is time to retrain Sage.  My sister thought it would be funny to teach Sage to be a lap dog.  But the only person Sage would sit on was my sister.  The first time it happened Peggy just called Sage and she jumped up in her lap.  45 pounds of happy, squirmy puppy.  Lets just say my sister had her hands full ( and her lap).  Friday night Mike and his sister Laura and Peggy and myself had an early birthday party for me.  My parents sent a great big pelican to go on my front porch.  Here is a picture of the pelican, Sage, and Moose together.  I think they were getting ready to play twister.

Time for me to go.  See you soon!

Update!

Sage is still having problems.  She was again crying when she tried to go potty and can not go.  So back to the vet we went.  The Vet put her on some meds in case she has an infection.  But believes she has just eaten something that has her stopped up.  She said as long as she was still eating and not throwing up to stay on this course of action.  For some reason she all of sudden has taken to peeing on the sidewalk.  This started last night.  After she feels better we will have to break her of this habit really fast.  It is nice that my sister is here still and can keep an eye on her.  As Sage would say two paws up for Peggy.

$40.00 POOP

Hi everyone!
Ron & Sage here.

Ron:  We thought we tell you about out experience today!
Sage;  You may not want to read this while eating dinner.
Ron  I never suggest reading our blog during dinner.
Ron:  Anyway I got home from work and took Sage outside.
Sage:  Yes I get no privacy!
Ron: Well she tries to go but can't and is crying a little like she was in pain.
Sage: It was extreme pain but I try not to let on.  I'm tuff!
Ron: Yeah right.   Any way I was talking to my Mom on the phone and she said yes get her to the vet.
Sage : She a very smart woman.
Ron So we get to the vet and the lady at the counter asks if Sage is the kind of dog that would eat something she shouldn't?  I said she is the kind of dog that will eat every thing she shouldn't.
Sage:  I resemble that remark.  So we go in to see the Doc.  And two nice ladies come into the room.  The one lady wad holding me and petting me and the other checked me over.  Then she said she was going to take my temperature.
Ron:  Yep and it wasn't and oral thermometer was it?
Sage: NO!   And Ron gave me no warning.   He could of said something like watch the back door or something.
Ron:  Yep we did not get an aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw from Sage we got a whoooohoooooo from her.  But her temp was fine
.Doctor putting on rubber glove
Sage: Yes but again Ron did not warn me why she was putting on that plastic glove.
Ron: Why ruin the surprise.   The Doc put her finger right up Sage's butt and checked out her poop. She said it looked fine but she had some grass in there.
Sage: Then she picked up a large spray bottle and headed for my butt!  I was scared to death where she planed on putting that.
Ron:  Oh she was just cleaning you up.  About this time a third lady came in and said she was going to bring my wife in.   I'm thinking this is going to be a good trick.  I hope she's cute and has a lot of money.
Sage:  It was just his sister Peggy who is here on vacation.  So the Doc said I looked fine and they even fed me some food while I was there to make sure I had an appetite.  She then said for us to go outside for a walk and see if there is still a back up at the Poo Poo station.
Ron:  So Sage, Peggy and I go outside for a little walk.  And after a couple of tries we have success!  She went three times!
Sage: Who's counting?
Ron:  I was at that point.  That was a $40.00 Poop!
Sage:  Actually I went three times so it was $13.33 a poop.
Ron:  So we were sent home and are keeping an eye on her.  They said to feed her can dog food for a couple of days.
Sage: yep but I'm doing much better now.
Ron:  We are waiting for her to poop again.
Sage: you know that's allot of pressure to preform when you have someone chasing you around the yard with a flashlight saying  go potty.
Ron:  well we will let you know how it all comes out.
Sage: that's was bad!   Did you really say that.
Sage Till next time.

Peggy helping cut the grass!

Sage here.

Ron's sister Peggy is here on vacation.  She got here on Saturday July 28th. So she has been here a little over a week and has the time just flown buy.  I like Peggy allot and even have jumped up and sat in her lap a few times.  She must really like it because she starts screaming in delight and waving her arms yelling my name.  I'll have to try it again soon.  The other night Peggy made some thing called a pot roast for dinner.  Ron dumped some other juices on my dinner and boy was it good.  Ron and Peggy have been watching the Olympics on TV and just relaxing.  So I do my best to get them up and play with me.  One of my favorite things to do is if they are laying down on the couch is to go and put my toy right in their face.  That always gets their attention.  Also a new game I like to play is when we go outside I like to try to sneak a stick back into the house when we come in.  Then if I can I go into the living room and chew it into little pieces to leave all over the carpet.Well time to go!
Till next time!

Gaspump

Gas is almost $4.00 a gallon!  What a rip off!  they say it is because of a downed coker at BP's massive Northwest Indiana refiner.  Michigan is upset about their prices and they are 25 cents cheaper than us.  My Dad down in Florida said has is around $3.30 a gallon.  I heard an interesting idea.  We can't boycott gas because we have to have it to get around.  But we could pick out on brand and boycott it until they bring their price down.  Lets pick a fictional gas company and let's see, OK lets call it Greedway!  Now if we could get people to stop using Greedway you bet they would drop their price to get the business back.  Now I know someone is going to say but you hurting the independent owner of the gas station who has no control over what the gas company charges.  I wise man once said. " the needs of the many, are greater than the needs of the few".  OK so maybe that was Spock talking to Captain Kirk but it works.  If the American people can let their feelings be known by eating chicken sandwiches at Chick-Fil-A restaurants why can't we do this?  OK I'll get off my soap box now.

Photo: Sage - Ron's 7 month old lab - 40 lbs of energy.

Hi everyone!

Been very busy the last few days.  With the storm dropping large branches into my yard and the power going out for two days I got a little behind.  I had to cut up the branches in my yard and stack all the wood.  Rick next door was a big help cutting up the smaller branches and taking them to the street.  I also spent time over at Mikes helping him clears some large branches from his yard.  Then I had my yard plus two other yards to cut.  Sage has loved it!  Everywhere she looks there is a stick to chew on.
My Sister is now in town and staying with me for a couple of weeks.  It allot of fun having her around.  We went out for Pizza tonight with Mike and his sister.  Good food good fun.

Sage likes having Peggy around and surprised her by trying to become a lap dog.  My sister was talking on the phone with me when Sage decided to jump up and sit in her lap.  Hey when we were in Florida she saw Kacey doing it all the time.  I just told Peggy that Sage loves her.  Peggy did not seem to happy about this especially since Sage did it again.

Sage has been a terror with her toys.  I am having a hard time finding a toy she will not destroy.  Our friend Betty gave us a skunk with a hard piece of rubber on it that looked like roadkill with a tire track on it.  She said that the rubber part should hold up to her.  And it did for fifteen minutes.  Then I was finding little chunks of rubber on the floor.  So the search goes on for a toy she can't destroy.

Transformers Blows Up Box

Sage here!
We have power again!  Just as Ron came home from work some guy named Nipsco came and got the power back on for us.  The power was on for about a  half hour when we heard Boom  Boom  Boom and off went the power.  We all thought the guys out trimming the trees off the wires had been electrocuted.  Even that Nipsco guy came running to see what happened. But thankfully some wires touched and shorted out the main fuse and within a half hour we were back on.  Oh yes it's great to have the A/C back on.  Being a black Lab I appreciate the A/C.  Ron's not happy about all tree limbs in the yard but I love having all these sticks to chew on.  And a great big two paws up for Rick and Pat next door for letting me come over and play in their house.  They had a generator and A/C.  Plus ruby and I got to play together.  That's all for now
Till next time!

Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Quick post here.

No power at home. Came home to find two large limbs had come down on the power line in my back yard.  The whole neighborhood is without power.  We are now playing hide and seek with Nipsco.  They are hiding and we can't find them.  The Nipsco web page says it my be Thursday afternoon before we get power.

Something I noticed is my yard is just covered with leaves but the neighbors yards are not.  We must of had a small micro bust go right through my yard.  The picture above doe's not show how covered my yard is in leaves.

Thanks to Rick & Pat next door who have a generator and are going to take care of Sage today as it is going to get up around 100 degrees.

with last year's Underdog,

Sage here!

We had a slow weekend.  Not doing much but hanging around the house.  Ron was doing a little house cleaning because his sister Peggy will be here next week.  She will come in on Saturday and stay for about two weeks.  I know Ron is looking forward to having her here.  I asked if Kacey is coming but she is not going to make this trip.  Oh well.  I'll have to send her a flea-mail.  Ron & I spent some time out in the yard doing yard work.  The grass is not looking very good.  It is so dry and the weeds love this kind of weather.  Ron keeps blaming me for the yellow spots in the back yard.  I don't understand how I could be causing them.  Here is a little tidbit.  Ron gets very upset if you try to bury a bone in the back yard.  I guess I should of done it in the front yard.  I did find a new game.  When Ron waters the flowers it's fun to try to get a quick drink from the hose.  Sometimes Ron thinks he's funny and squirts me with the hose.  He just lost another sock for that one.  Sunday evening we watched a very good movie called Under Dog.  I thought it was all so cool so I went and got a cape and put on some underwear.  FYI do not try leaping of the kitchen table because this will not not make you able to fly.  I should be feeling better in a day or two.

Ron and I have this game we play.  He keeps picking up my toys and putting in a box.  I keep taking them out and spreading them around the house.  What I really like to do is put some toys on the floor right outside the shower so when he steps out he steps on one.  It's kind of fun watching him hop around the bathroom mumbling things.  The other day after setting up my toys I added a little fart has I stepped out.  As he opened the shower door I heard he say "oh my god" and then he stepped right on my chew bone.   You couldn't  of asked for a better start to the day.

Time for me to go.
Till next time!

Hi everyone!

I finally get a chance to sit down and catch up a little after our vacation.  My good friend Mike and I drove a Kia to Pensacola.  This rental car was good on gas mileage but hard on the back.  The drivers seat was designed to keep you squirming the whole time you were in it.  And you felt every little bump along the way.  My back was so soar after driving in that car.  Any way Sage was great on the trip and slep most of the way.  We drove thought the night and got there before lunch.  So off to Hooters we go.  Yes Hooters!  The Hooters in Pensacola is right on the sound so you and sit on the deck and look at the water.  A small beach is right in front of Hooters also as you can see in the picture.

There seams to be a nice view were ever you look.

Why do Hooters Girls Wear

Thursday night we went to band on the beach.  We sat in our lawn chairs and listened to a good local band called Lektric Mullet.  They played allot of music we enjoyed and the the crowd really enjoyed them.  People were up dancing and having a good time.   We brought a cooler with refreshments and some goooooood homemade cake my sister Peggy made.

One night we had a shrimp boil.  This is were you cook the shrimp, sausage, corn and potatos all in the same pot.  Then you dump it out in the middle of the table and go at it.   If you leave hungry it's your own fault!

The shrimp we got came from Joe Patty's. You can't get sea food any fresher than Joe Patty's.
The fishing boats are parked right next too the store.
Inside Joe Patti's, PensacolaJoe Patti runs his own fishing

As you can see below my brother and sister are so much fun to go out to eat with.  Well OK after they get done texting.  We ate way too much but had allot of fun.

This is my brother Dave, myself and my friend Mike at the restaurant Flounders.  I so glad Mike came along.  We had a great time!

We also saw the Blue Angles while sitting on the beach.
blue angels beach airshow

Sage and Kacey got to spend a bunch of quality time together.  I think I can safely say it was something Kacey will never forget!

Well that's enough for now.  You can also see more at my sisters web page.

Sage here!

Well we are back from Pensacola Florida.  We had a great time seeing everyone and enjoying the sites.  The Blue Angles did a show while we were there and man are they gooooooood!  They fly just 18 inches from each other!
blue angels beach airshow            Blue Angels

Now I have a bone to pick here.  I get down to Florida and find out I can't get wet because of my stitches.  Now some very nice people at the Pensacola Animal Hospital took my stitches out for free.  They said I still needed about a week before I could get in the water.  Bummer!  I was ready to hang ten on some narly waves.  So I thought I would go work on my tan and soak in some rays at the beach. I even got a bikini wax!  Ok it's just where they shaved me for my little operation I had. Anyway then I find out there are no dogs allowed on the beach.
dog beach

Where do people get off say dogs can't go on the beach!..
Oh they say we may poop on the beach.

I don't think we dogs left this behind!

When is the last time you heard of a sea turtle dieing from eating something  a dog put in the ocean.

Ok lets be clear about this!  This is not dog poo on the beach!  This is Pensacola beach covered in oil.  And no it was not caused by a poodle with too much sun tan oil on.  This was due to BP not K9!

When is the last time you saw a dog passed out on the beach surrounded by beer bottles.

I saved the best or should I say the worst for last.  Have you ever heard of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch?  This is a large area where trash has been trapped by the ocean currents.  Much of it plastic.  Humm  And they are worried about a dog pooping on the beach!

sleep beach tester dog

We dog just want to have some fun in the sun.

Well that's all for now>
Till next time!

Hi from Florida!

Sage & I are here in Pensacola.  Along with us is my good  friend Mike. We drove though the night and got here aound lunch time on Saturday. My brother Dave is here too from Monticello.  Below is a picture of my Brother right after he put up a sun shelter.  The sun shelter was a gift to our family from our friend Betty  It will be nice for the sunny days down  on the beach.

Sage needed to catch a short nap after the 14 hour drive down here.  She was very good and slept most of the time on the way down here.  So why did she need that nap?   Can't say Kacey is real happy to to see her.  Sage wants to play and Kacey is not ready to play with a lab puppy.  Kacey is an eight year old pug.

This is a wooden statue that greets you when you enter Joe Patty's.  This is a fish market that is fantastic.  We bought shrimp for a shrimp boil for tonight.  Man was it good.  You can't get it any fresher than at Joe Patty's

After dinner we went to the beach and took a little drive along the coast.  Hope to get to spend some time at the beach Monday.   Mike, Dave and Dad are going to the navel museum.   I have been there a bunch of times so I'm going to pass.  My sister Peggy wants to do some things together.  Bet it has something to do with shopping!

Out of time so we will see you later!

Our Weekend

Hi every one!
Sage and Ron here.  We thought we would work together on this post.
Ron:  Well as you can see Sage has gotten the word that we are going to Florida.
Sage:  Cowabunga dude! This is going to be totally Rad man!  I cant wait to hit the waves.
Ron: My friend Mike, Sage and I are going to drive down to see my family for a week.
Sage:  I'll take the first shift of driving!
Ron:  I don't think so.  Sage is doing much better now and has bounced back from her surgery.
Sage: Fixed yah right!  195 degrees out and I can't go in the pool because of my stitches.

Sage:  Here is a picture of Ron's new boat.  He says we are going fishing.  One question what are fish?
Ron:  I sold my old boat and bought this one from Mike.  It is smaller and easier to handle.
Sage:  Ron almost had a heart attack when he went to buy a gas can for the boat and they want $70.00 for it.
Ron;  I think I will try Ebay!

Sage:   We spent the afternoon pulling weeds, trimming bushes and cutting grass.
Ron:   What's this we stuff?  You napped in the yard while I worked.
Sage :  Well you wouldn't let me drive the tractor.
Ron: I got the weeding done before the storm and did the rest later in the afternoon.
Sage : What a storm! Ron & I stood on the porch and watched it rain.  I thought we were going to need Ron's boat there for a while.

Ron: Hey our tree has some leaves on it.
Sage : You mean that stick is really growing?
Ron: That stick is a Bald Cyprus tree and you tried to run off with it before I planted it.
Sage:  It looked like a stick to me.

Ron : Here are the flowers along the driveway.
Sage Ron was weeding these before the rain hit.
Ron:   It was HOT!!!
Sage: You were so sweaty you looked like you got caught in the rain.  You know my sense of smell is much stronger than yours.
Ron: I don’t like where this is headed.
Sage:  You needed a shower!
Ron: Thanks Sage!

Ron:  Here is the front porch.
Sage Very tropical looking!
Ron:  Thanks but how would you know whats tropical?
Sage : I watch the discovery channel
Ron Well thats all for now!
Sage : Till next time!
